These pictures highlight our Molokai Ukulele Workshop held December 8-14, 2007.  We spent five solid days working each day on theory, left hand techniques, right hand techniques, many different songs designed to portray concepts we were discussing as well as hearing from Molokai's resident ukulele maker, Dan Ryerson . . . and yes, the kanikapila was to die for.

Aloha PDF Print

Aloha

Aloha kakou,

We want to thank everyone who has supported Ho'omalie this past year by either purchasing our CD, "Only You", or attending one of our performances.

We have been busy promoting our music locally and globally, playing for concert audiences as well as for kupuna and keiki in elderly care homes and oncology wards. The rewards have been profound. It's always been our contention that we, the musicians, are merely the vessels for this music and when ego and human agenda is removed from the equation, the music will stand alone in it's purest and most beautiful form. This is what we continue to strive for as Hawaiian artists and hopefully, you can hear this in our recording.

Ho'omalie
(Ho'okupu HKPU 1001)

Zanuck Kapala Lindsey won a Hoku Award ("Jazz Album of the Year") in 2000 with "Hula Joe & The Hutjumpers," an album of contemporary big band swing music recorded in response to the swing dancing fad of the late-1990s. The Hutjumpers are long-gone, but Lindsey is back with a new group, Ho'omalie, and an album that will certainly have much more staying power.

WHO IS HO‘OMALIE? PDF Print
hoomaileAlthough the musicians in Ho‘omalie have been around for a while and are established entertainers in their own right, Ho‘omalie is a group that’s fresh and new, and unlike anything that’s come along in Hawaiian music for a long time. The members of Ho‘omalie are Zanuck Lindsey, Kimo Hussey, John Enos, and Lopaka Ho‘opi‘i. Zanuck Lindsey is probably
the most well known...playing with groups such as Kalapana, Hula Joe & the Hutjumpers, Na Leo, Rockhard Hawaii, and also as part of Fiji’s backup band. Kimo Hussey is an accomplished ‘ukulele player and released a CD called “Eminent ‘Ukulele.” He also collaborated with Carol Wilcox, Vicky Hollinger and Puakea Nogelmeier on the best-selling songbook “He Mele Aloha.” John Enos has played with the groups Low Down and Ho‘ike Trio. Lopaka Ho‘opi‘i is a fireman by day, and is also with the group Loea. With their varied musical backgrounds and influences, Ho‘omalie shows great diversityand range in each piece on “Only You.” The members site their influences as Alvin Kaleolani Isaacs, Jesse Kalima, the Doobie Brothers, Tower Of Power, Sunday Manoa, Beamer Brothers, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour and many others.
